Our History & Legacy

From the pioneering Tuskegee Airmen to today's Tuskegee NEXT Foundation, our story is one of breaking barriers and creating opportunities in aviation.

The Tuskege Airmen

The Tuskegee Airmen were the first Black military aviators in the U.S. Army Air Corps (a precursor of the U.S. Air Force). They trained at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama during World War II.

At a time when many people thought that Black Americans lacked the intelligence, skill, courage and patriotism to be successful military aviators, the Tuskegee Airmen proved them wrong.

Their outstanding record of performance, with one of the lowest loss records of all escort fighter groups, is a testament to their extraordinary skill, courage, and determination to serve their country despite the obstacles they faced.
